### [London Mansion Apartment: A Considered Dialogue in Materials](https://01des.com/en/project/2576) **Published:** 2026-10-27T02:54:31 **Author:** 01DES Editor **Excerpt:** NENMAR has remodelled a 170-square-metre ground-floor f… RESIDENTIAL · LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM Facing Battersea Park in London, this apartment has been replanned by NENMAR with the aim of improving circulation and natural light. Oak covers walls, door frames and cabinetry; travertine appears in the fireplace and kitchen and dining area; and brushed stainless steel finishes the end of the corridor. The palette is limited, with variations concentrated around room entrances and individual fittings. ![Armchairs by the windows and a travertine fireplace](https://cdn.01des.com/uploads/2026/10/20261027-024428-eJFVqDUI.webp!dis) Two armchairs stand in front of the living-room windows, with the stone fireplace on the side wall. ![Sofa, oak panelling and storage beside a doorway](https://cdn.01des.com/uploads/2026/10/20261027-024430-Yfk9sOod.webp!dis) The sofa sits against oak panelling; a bookcase is visible beyond the doorway, and a storage compartment is recessed into the wall on the right. ![Dining-area doorway, oak door and bookcase](https://cdn.01des.com/uploads/2026/10/20261027-024431-eW7xniEe.webp!dis) A view through the stone-framed doorway towards the dining area, where open shelving sits beside an oak door. ## OAK JOINERY ALONG THE CORRIDOR At the entrance, vertical and horizontal natural-oak framing runs along the corridor, setting out divisions for doorways and bespoke cabinetry. Storage, a coat-hanging area and a bench beside the window are incorporated into the joinery, giving the sides of the passage a use beyond circulation. A door is concealed within the brushed stainless-steel wall at the far end. When closed, its surface blends with the surrounding metal; when opened, it reveals a red travertine guest bathroom. Here, the corridor’s pale timber gives way to a marked change in colour. ![Entrance storage, bench and coat-hanging area by a window](https://cdn.01des.com/uploads/2026/10/20261027-024432-C7TitcLr.webp!dis) Entrance storage runs along the corridor, with a bench and coat-hanging area beside the window. ![Concealed stainless-steel door at the end of the corridor](https://cdn.01des.com/uploads/2026/10/20261027-024434-qfHC5Mc0.webp!dis) A brushed stainless-steel wall closes the end of the corridor, with a concealed door set into the surrounding metal finish. ## TRAVERTINE, FROM FIREPLACE TO KITCHEN The bespoke living-room fireplace is carved from a single block of Titanium travertine. Its edges curve inward around the opening, with horizontal veining visible across the stone. Two armchairs stand in front of the windows, lined with sheer curtains. An arched opening connects the living room with the kitchen and dining area. The same travertine is used for kitchen worktops, the splashback and doorway surrounds, meeting the oak cabinetry. The fireplace, doorways and worktop share a material, each using it in a different shape and thickness. ![Living-room seating and coffee table in front of sheer curtains](https://cdn.01des.com/uploads/2026/10/20261027-024436-oC9yuGAu.webp!dis) Sheer curtains line the windows behind the armchairs and stone coffee table. ![Recessed bookcase beside a doorway](https://cdn.01des.com/uploads/2026/10/20261027-024437-N8nFYM87.webp!dis) A recessed bookcase and the adjacent doorway have similar timber surrounds. ![Oak framing and artwork seen through a doorway](https://cdn.01des.com/uploads/2026/10/20261027-024439-Marb89Yk.webp!dis) The doorway frames a view of oak framing and an artwork on the opposite wall. ![Kitchen travertine worktop, splashback and timber cabinets](https://cdn.01des.com/uploads/2026/10/20261027-024440-rIiaXD2o.webp!dis) Dark travertine covers the worktop and splashback between the kitchen’s upper and lower cabinets. ![Single-block travertine fireplace with a curved edge](https://cdn.01des.com/uploads/2026/10/20261027-024441-3aPJSfmL.webp!dis) The fireplace is carved from a single block of travertine, with horizontal veining and a curved edge around the opening. ## BEDSIDE JOINERY AND BATHROOMS The apartment has three bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom. Full-height cabinetry is arranged around the head of the bed, with open niches and integrated lighting. Wardrobes beside the window connect with the bedside joinery, keeping storage along the wall. The bathrooms combine clay-plaster walls, cement floors and bespoke white travertine elements. A pale stone basin has a wall-mounted tap, with a storage niche beside the mirror. The colours are lighter than those of the red travertine guest bathroom at the end of the corridor. ![Full-height oak bedroom cabinetry and bedside niches](https://cdn.01des.com/uploads/2026/10/20261027-024443-06U0YfCs.webp!dis) Full-height oak cabinetry surrounds the head of the bed, with open niches set into it. ![Wardrobe by a window and illuminated bedside joinery](https://cdn.01des.com/uploads/2026/10/20261027-024445-nPGGgerM.webp!dis) A wardrobe beside the window connects with the bedside joinery, where lighting is integrated into an open shelf. ![Stone basin, wall-mounted tap and storage niche](https://cdn.01des.com/uploads/2026/10/20261027-024446-QE59xezc.webp!dis) A pale stone basin has a wall-mounted tap, with shelves set into a niche beside the mirror. ![Globe light in front of a mirror and its reflection](https://cdn.01des.com/uploads/2026/10/20261027-024447-nvxGyQtd.webp!dis) A globe light hangs in front of the mirror, which reflects both the light and its curved support. ![Red travertine bathroom and mirror](https://cdn.01des.com/uploads/2026/10/20261027-024449-E4bFRLgv.webp!dis) Red travertine covers the guest-bathroom walls and basin; the mirror reflects the lighting and shower area. ## DOORWAYS, CABINETRY AND WALLS Joinery, lighting and soft furnishings were all designed for the apartment. In the kitchen, an oven is built into a tall cabinet, and travertine surrounds meet timber cabinet doors. Living-room panelling extends around the doorway, beside a recessed storage compartment. Cabinet joints align with doorway surrounds where they meet, and timber finishes continue from one room to the next. ![Built-in kitchen oven and travertine surround](https://cdn.01des.com/uploads/2026/10/20261027-024451-lCE2jEOU.webp!dis) An oven is integrated into a tall kitchen cabinet, beside a travertine surround that meets the adjoining timber cabinetry. ![Oak cabinet joints meeting stone](https://cdn.01des.com/uploads/2026/10/20261027-024452-6V5NCJaZ.webp!dis) A horizontal joint in the oak cabinet doors continues above the stone surround. ![Thickness and curved surface of a travertine fireplace](https://cdn.01des.com/uploads/2026/10/20261027-024454-m3W4itqd.webp!dis) The side view of the fireplace reveals the stone’s thickness and its inward-curving surface. ![Circular blue artwork above a sofa](https://cdn.01des.com/uploads/2026/10/20261027-024455-csOhfofs.webp!dis) A circular blue artwork hangs on the oak-panelled wall above a pale sofa. ![Sofa and storage on either side of a living-room doorway](https://cdn.01des.com/uploads/2026/10/20261027-024456-LI3399S1.webp!dis) A sofa and recessed storage compartment sit on either side of the living-room doorway. > NENMAR uses oak across doorways, cabinetry and wall panelling, while the same travertine appears separately in the fireplace and kitchen and dining area. Storage remains integrated into the bedroom joinery, and the red travertine guest bathroom at the corridor’s end introduces a more pronounced change in colour.
