RESIDENTIAL · PARIS
At Avenue Floquet, paintings hang on either side of the fireplace, behind sofas and beside chairs. They share the rooms with furniture, sculpture and vessels in the Paris home that Sheikh Hamad bin Abdullah Al Thani decorated with Alberto Pinto.

The scale of the reception room
The early twentieth-century house stands in the seventh arrondissement, within sight of the Eiffel Tower. Successive residents and decorators have altered its interiors. The rooms shown here date from Sheikh Hamad’s collaboration with Pinto.
The fireplace anchors the red reception room, where paintings, tapestries and architectural ornament fill the surrounding walls. A chandelier hangs overhead and table lamps stand on small tables beside the seating.

A change of palette upstairs
Ivory and soft gold take over in the upstairs Art Deco rooms. Portraits hang against diamond-patterned walls, and golden seats stand beside a geometric rug. The walls are paler than those downstairs, but the display is just as dense.
In a smaller sitting room, the sofa picks up the blue of the walls. An ornamental mirror hangs above it, with lamps, candlesticks and a chandelier at different heights. Elsewhere, small portraits frame a mirror above a long table of figures and candlesticks. Each room has its own palette, with objects displayed close to the furniture and seating.

Living with the collection
The collection ranges from paintings, silver and porcelain to period furniture and twentieth-century design. The photographs show portraits, sculpture and vessels sharing a wall or gathered around a group of furniture.
Individual photographs bring out the curves of a carved gilt settee, the legs of silver wine coolers and the clothing in a painted portrait. In the upstairs salon, a full-length portrait almost fills the height of the wall. Smaller paintings behind the sofa hang low beside a row of statuettes on a long table.

The collection guided the furnishing of Avenue Floquet. The red reception room, pale Art Deco rooms and small blue salon each have their own scale and palette. Paintings, furniture and objects gather around the chairs, fireplaces and tables of a collector’s home.
